IT - Dinanzi all'oceano, come pure quando commenta le litanie del Sacro Cuore, Padre Dehon contempla "gli abissi del Cuore di Gesù". Dopo l'umiltà, la bontà, la vita interiore, vengono lo zelo e lo spirito di sacrificio che hanno animato Gesù lungo tutta la sua vita apostolica e nella sua Passione, e che rendono conto del mistero della vita eucaristica. Un'ultima meditazione riprende il tema dell'abbassamento di Gesù nell'obbedienza all' Ecce venio : la vita nascosta e la vita pubblica, la Passione, fino all'ultimo grido d'abbandono al Padre: "Tutto è consumato". Sono pagine del Fondatore poco conosciute. Vi ritroviamo il suo amore per Gesù, il desiderio mai saziato di scrutare il mistero di questo Cuore che ci ha tanto amato e che aspetta la nostra risposta d'amore.
EN - Standing before the ocean, as when he commented on the litanies of the Sacred Heart, Father Dehon contemplated on “the abysses of the Heart of Jesus”. After the humility, the goodness and the interior life, come the zeal and the spirit of sacrifice which animated Jesus all through His apostolic life and in His Passion, and which account for the mystery of the eucharistic life. A last meditation once again takes up the theme of the lowering of Jesus in obedience to the Ecce venio: the hidden life and the public life, the Passion, up to the last cry of abandonment to the Father: “It is finished”. These are little known pages of the Founder's writings. In them we find his love for Jesus, his never-satisfied desire to scrutinize the mystery of this Heart which loved us so much and which awaits our response of love.

Profilo umano e spirituale di P. Dehon
FR - L'article présente quelques témoignages déposés aux procès diocésains de Malines (1952) et de Soissons (1958-1961), en vue de l'introduction de la Cause de béatification du P. Dehon. Ce sont les témoignages d'anciens élèves des Collèges Saint Jean et Saint Clément, de quelques prêtres séculiers et de religieux dehoniens qui ont connu le Père Dehon encore en vie et qui, dans leur déposition, ont décrit ses caractéristiques humaines et spirituelles. Ces témoignages ont été sélectionnés et regroupés par le P. Chiarello, de manière à composer le profil humain et spirituel du P. Dehon. Il décrit sa personnalité, la figure de prêtre exemplaire, son profil surnaturel, sans cacher les défauts. Le portrait est complété par le témoignage du P. Dehon lui-même au sujet des influences exercées par différentes personnes et milieux éducationnels sur son caractère, son goût pour les voyages et sur ses amitiés.
EN - In view of the introduction of the Cause for the Beatification of Fr. Dehon, this article presents some testimonies given at the diocesan hearings of Malines (1952) and Soissons (1958 – 1961). These are testimonies by former pupils of the Saint John and Saint Clement Institutes, by a few secular priests and by Dehonian religious who knew Father Dehon when he was still alive and who, in their depositions, described his human and spiritual characteristics. These testimonies have been selected and regrouped by Fr. Chiarello in order to better compose a human and spiritual profile of Fr. Dehon. The article describes his personality, his figure as an exemplary priest and his supernatural profile, without hiding his failings. The portrait is completed by the testimony of Fr. Dehon himself regarding the influences exercised by different people and by educational environments on his character, his taste for traveling and on his friendships.

La missionarietà in P. Dehon
FR - Est-ce que la “missio ad gentes” est une des activités de la Congrégation? Non, - dit l'auteur, en se basant sur les écrits du P. Dehon - c'est un style, quelque chose qui est enraciné dans l'expérience spirituelle du P. Dehon. Ensemble avec l'adoration réparatrice, la “missio ad gentes” est l'expression du même engagement de réparation et d'oblation dans lequel le P. Dehon reconnaît le but, la raison d'existence de l'"oeuvre".
Sur le chemin de la refondation demandée par le XXI Chapitre Général, la passion pour Dieu qui soutient la passion pour l'homme ne peut se priver des attitudes caractéristiques de la “missio ad gentes”: ouverture à l'autre, confrontation avec celui qui est "différent", solidarité, témoignage de l'Amour de Dieu. Voilà ce que le P. Dehon exprime par le zèle pour "gagner les gens" pour le Royaume du Coeur du Christ, ou aussi par le "désir du martyr", dont il voit une réalisation dans la vie missionnaire vécue dans des situations difficiles et dangereuses.
EN - Is the “missio ad gentes” one of the Congregation's activities? Father Alessandro Capoferri, consulting Fr. Dehon's writings, says no: it is a style, it is something deeply-rooted in the spiritual experience of Fr. Dehon. Together with reparatory adoration, the “missio ad gentes” is an expression of the same commitment to reparation and offering which Fr. Dehon established as the purpose for which “the work” exists.
On the path towards refoundation, such as that requested by the XXI General Chapter, the passion for God which sustains the passion for man cannot do without the characteristic attitudes of the “missio ad gentes”: openness to the other, confrontation with the “different”, solidarity, and witness to the Love of God. These are the things which Fr. Dehon expressed with his commitment to “win people” for the Kingdom of the Heart of Christ and with his desire for “martyrdom” – which he saw could be realized in leading the missionary life in difficult and dangerous situations.

FR - J'ai lu, je ne sais pas où, que le P. Dehon avertissait souvent ses prêtres que "la pire des déformations consiste à se comporter comme fonctionnaires et non comme amis". Ces paroles m'ont fortement impressionnées. Elles faisaient écho à celles de saint Paul: "Quand je parlerai les langues des hommes et des anges, si je n'ai pas la charité, je ne suis plus qu'un airain qui sonne ou cymbale qui retentit" (1Cor 13,1). Je me suis donc mis à approfondir l'expérience de foi du P. Dehon et la nôtre, un thème qui faisait l'objet de quelques conférences que j'ai données pendant des cours de formation permanente de notre Congrégation.
EN - I have read, I do not know where, that Fr. Dehon often warned his priests that “the worst of deformations consists in behaving like functionaries and not like friends”. These words impressed me deeply. They echo those of Saint Paul : “If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal” (1 Cor 13:1). I therefore set myself to go more deeply into Fr. Dehon's experience of faith and our own, a theme which became the subject of several lectures which I gave during the courses of ongoing formation in our Congregation.

Le procès de béatification du P. Dehon
IT - L'articolo riproduce una conferenza tenuta il 13 aprile 2004 nella casa natalizia di p. Dehon a La Capelle, in occasione della "Journée amicale" della Provincia dell'Europa Francofona. Dopo un breve cenno storico sull'evoluzione delle procedure riguardanti le beatificazioni e canonizzazioni in genere, si passano in rassegna le varie tappe dei due processi della Causa di p. Dehon: quello sull'eroicità delle virtù e quello sul miracolo attribuito alla sua intercessione. La terza parte dell'esposizione riguarda la cerimonia di beatificazione ormai vicina.
EN - This article reproduces a lecture given on April 13, 2004 in the house at La Capelle where Fr. Dehon was born, on the occasion of the “Journée amicale” of the Province of Francophone Europe . After a brief note on the history of the development of the procedures concerning beatification and canonization in general, it moves on to summarize the various stages of the two processes of the Cause for Fr. Dehon: that on the heroism of his virtues and that of the miracle attributed to his intersession. The third part of the account concerns the beatification ceremony now near at hand.

FR - Le dialogue entre nos deux confrères, le cardinal Stanislaw Nagy et le p. EN - The dialogue between our two brethren, Cardinal Stanislaw Nagy and Fr. EN - An active member of a Congolese commission for the protection of the indigenous populations, Msgr. Gabriel Grison, Apostolic Vicar in Stanley Falls , here submits, for the judgment and the decision of the Governor of the Eastern Province of the Congo , the solution to worrying situations caused by abuses on the part of the administration or by natural disasters. In the spirit of Father Dehon, one hundred percent missionary, he presents his anxiety regarding the justice and the dignity of these exploited and defenseless populations.
