USA - First non-Dehonian President-rector at Hales Corners

sared heart

For the first time in its history the Sacred Heart School of Theology – known best in the Congregation for its ESL Program – will have a President – Rector who is not a SCJ. At a meeting of the Provincial Council on March 28, Msgr. Ross Shecterle, a priest with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, was named its new President. He will replace Fr. Jan de Jong scj who will retire on July 1. Msgr. Shecterle was previously rector of the American College of the Immaculate Conception in Louvain and the director of counseling services at the North American College in Rome.

The move is significant for the U.S.A. Province. With approximately 140 students, Sacred Heart School of Theology is North America’s largest Catholic seminary focused on preparing men over 30 for priesthood.

Commenting on the decision, Fr. Thomas Cassidy, the Provincial Superior said, “The charism of our founder, Fr. Leo John Dehon, will continue to be the foundation for all that is done at Sacred Heart School of Theology.” He added that it was a difficult decision, “but one we felt necessary to best serve the Church.”

Msgr. Shecterle will become the seminary’s 19th rector.
